Here you can see the radishes on the left and the peas (that finally sprouted!) on the right. In the middle are the nasturtium flowers that we planted indoors and transplanted today.

Here's a close-up of a pea plant. We'll keep watching as it stretches out and starts producing pods containing the peas.

We've been studying plant growth- both the parts of a plant and their "jobs". We then went outside to the community garden and planted several different kinds of seeds: peas, radishes, Bibb lettuce, and mixed lettuce. Here are some photos of the planting on Day 1 and the early results on Day 8.

I've been reading numerous Jan Brett books to the class as part of an author study. We've learned many of her common characteristics, like descriptive borders, animal characters, cold weather settings, etc. The children then each chose their favorite title and wrote a brief comment. The children in the Blue Pod created handprints on which they recorded something for which they're thankful. This ranged from "I am thankful for my family" to "I am thankful for my DS"! The resulting creation was this lovely tree on display in the Blue Pod:
